General Tso's Chicken

Fried chicken

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs

  • frying oil

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch

  • 1 tbsp minced ginger

  • 2 cloves minced garlic

  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes

Sauce

  • 3 tbsps rice vinegar
  • 3 tbsps soy sauce
  • 2 tsps hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tbsps sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • Mix the chicken with the 1/4 cup of cornstarch.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together rice vinegar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, water, sugar, and 1 tbsp of cornstarch.
  • Fry the chicken in a pan with oil until crispy.
  • Remove the chicken from the pan and drain all but 1 tbsp of the oil.
  • Add chili flakes, ginger, and garlic to pan.
  • Cook for 30 seconds.
  • Add back in the chicken, and then the sauce, and stir to combine.
  • Cook until sauce is thickened, about 30 seconds.
