Garlic Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes (peeled and cut into chunks)
  • 5 cloves garlic (peeled)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • Place potatoes and garlic cloves in a large pot and cover with cold water by 1 inch.
  • Add 1 tsp salt to the water and bring to a boil over high heat.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, until potatoes and garlic are fork-tender.
  • Drain potatoes and garlic thoroughly and return to pot.
  • Mash potatoes and garlic with a potato masher or ricer until smooth.
  • Add butter and mix until melted and incorporated.
  • Gradually add milk while stirring until desired consistency is reached.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
  • To store: refrigerate leftovers for up to 24 hours. Reheat in a pot over low heat with a splash of milk, stirring frequently until heated through.
